Leisure and entertainments

Avui ha estat un dia feixuc, llarg i molt dinàmic. Per això llegeixo a 'vespres cantades' missatges i esdeveniments.

Com sempre aquests ulls de mel i ginesta deturen embadalits. Dues entrades em criden l'atenció:

  1. Slight decrease in nights spent in hotels in 2008 - Tourism in Europe: first results for 2008

" This edition of Statistics in Focus presents the first results for the 2007-2008 evolution of tourism in Europe.

The publication copies the information included in the annual Data in Focus discussing the first results for the previous year, but also analyses the main observations in the context of the economic and financial crisis that started in the course of 2008.

While the focus is on the evolution of the number of nights spent in hotels and similar establishments, the paper also looks at the evolutions from another point of view, namely the holiday trips made by EU residents and air passenger transport.
"

Així i de manera gràfica podem veure que:

This contraction followed four years of growth at an average annual rate of 3.2% and is the first fall since European tourism recovered from the slowdown following the events of September 2001

The biggest decreases were observed in Cyprus (-4.8%), Greece (-4.6%), the Netherlands (-4.1%), Denmark (-3.0%) and Italy (-2.9%).

Taking into account their weight in the EU tourism market, Italy and Spain were, in absolute terms, the main contributors to the negative growth at the level of the EU.

In 14 of the 27 Member States, the number of nights spent went up in 2008. The highest increases were observed in Slovakia (+7.7%), Poland (+4.7%) and Latvia (+4.6%). In absolute terms, the growth in Germany and in Austria contributed most to the smoothening of the negative growth at the level of the EU.
